John 14:27 NIV Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled and do not be afraid.
The world definitely doesn’t give us peace, that’s for sure. So, today’s reflection asks us to imagine something simple but wild:
God hands you a gift: His peace. And in return, He asks you to give Him your worries and concerns.
It sounds crazy, but that’s exactly what He wants from you.
Who do you know that would ask you to hand over your worries and concerns and the price you pay isn’t money, isn’t your child, isn’t any resource, isn’t anything that counts as an asset? You don’t give up anything of value, and in return He gives you peace. Who does that?
It amazes me every time I think about it.
So today I’m asking myself: What do I give Him? Just a reminder that He already has all my concerns and all my worries. I’ve given them to Him. They’re His. Thank You for taking them and thank You for Your peace because it has been incredible.
Sometimes I wonder if I’ve walked away from my worries too much. But I’m grateful that in the moments when overwhelm tries to creep back in, I can call out to Him and He gives me peace again. He reminds me. He calms me down. He shows me that all things work for good, that everything has a reason, and that I don’t need to worry.
It has made such a difference in my life.
It feels like a double gift like someone saying, “I need change for a $20, but you can keep the change. Actually, you can keep the $20 too.” That’s what this relationship feels like. I get gifts every day. I get Someone who is always there. And all I have to do is love Him by loving His people, talk to Him, and give Him my troubles.
I hope and pray I’m doing what I need to do to be worthy even though I know that’s impossible, but I want to meet His expectations. In business, we always want to exceed expectations, right? That’s what I want to do with Him. He exceeds mine, and I want to give the same.
So dear Lord, whatever that looks like today, I pray You bless me with it. Help me exceed Your expectations in whatever You have for me to do. Amen. Amen indeed.
